Used to be a few Vets but no active duty guys that I know of. Couple of reservists, a few activity duty, and some vets make up our military community here. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen. Maybe a Coastguardsman? Not sure.

You got like 6 of us to chose from, you have an airman, some soldiers, and couple marines. I'd totally reenlist to be a coastie, if they paid well.

Are you guys classified as an ABCT or an IBCT(A)? I feel like it's changed a few times over the years...

I was actually looking today and saw that "ABCT" in Army nomenclature is typically reserved for "Armored Brigade Combat Team", and according to the 2015 army reorganization, is still "Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne)". I dunno if they'd call it "IBCT(A)" though since there's also "Infantry Brigade Combat Team (air assault)" and that also has an A... though maybe they do IBCT(AA) or something. Hmm.

I'd like to hear directly since not everything on paper is always the way things are in actuality, especially due to tradition and also since the 173rd's organization is atypical overall due to not being permanently tasked to any specific division.

actually on all my paperwork it says IBCT(A) lmfao....nobody cares honestly. I shook the COL and CSM hands today. :P (just to boast)

edit: I just found another packet that says 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.....wtf lol

honestly it's probably what we call ourselves vs a designation the army gives us as a deployable entity...idfk

I'm mostly curious because I'm constantly referring to the unit in operations posts, and I want to be accurate and respectful. I've seen both forms but prefer the easier to type ABCT myself.

Well, now that I've seen ABCT can also mean Armored BCT, I can't unsee it when I read it...

Stick with abct, that's what we use. Sir you're gonna have to spell it out every time you say it though so we get those tank images out of your brain ;)

Eh. I'll still probably chuckle. Don't be too offended when you see me writing IBCT(A), but I usually care more about correctness and precision more than tradition or pride. :P

So... if we're an ABCT, does this mean we get tanks? :D

Maybe if we were Russian VDV... the only country that actually cares about its paratroopers' equipment. Wait, what?

we were actually testing an ODST method of insertion for our vehicles. Sadly testing strategy is still in early development. ;)

Edit: and russians don't actually have any paratroopers, at least not by my definition. We don't even have any paratroopers in the United states....Only here in Italy :)

"no one is paratrooper besides us"

Sky hooahs,

Frozen from above.

Go take a ruck run up the alps and then tell me you're a paratrooper ;)

fuckn blue berets, they have like 72,000 so called "paratroopers"

we have like a few thousand if that. (few hundred in the herd)

Pvt Swan, I was in the 3rd ID, 3rd BCT during my active days. 2/69 AR (HHC Scout platoon) as a matter of fact. Can you guess what we did with tanks? :D
