Hey everyone, Im interested in trying out milsim for the first time, and I thought it was so cool how there's a milsim team honoring my first unit.

I've played alot of arma 2, but hardly any arma 3. How hard will that transition be?

Also, I've looked over your available positions, and I didn't see anything that directly referenced a forward observer or JTAC, the closest equivalent in my mind is the radio telephone operator slot I see.

My main question is do you have any kind of dedicated fire support role? I know how to call for fire from mortars, artillery, AH-64, AC-130, and CAS platforms IRL. I don't know if that actually translates to what you guys do in this server, but if you guys have those assets available, I can control them for you. If you don't, i'd still be interested in joining either way. Thanks in advance for the answers

Hey, welcome!

I've played alot of arma 2, but hardly any arma 3. How hard will that transition be?

We transitioned as a unit from ARMA 2 to ARMA 3 about 5 years ago and it was practically seamless, especially since a lot of the mods are made by the same guys nowadays (ACE, ACRE).

To keep everything "in-house" with U.S. Army ranks, awards, etc., we utilize our radio-telephone operators as JTACs but call them RTOs. Besides, RTOs are kinda useless in ARMA since radios are... well, they actually work, unlike real life. Don't need a SPC whose sole job it is to program radios and troubleshoot all the NCO's radio problems!

I will say, before there's any expectations, since you already are trained on fire support and have your own perceptions about it: we don't utilize a full 9-line system because we're all here to have fun and we have a broad spectrum of members, from civilian to military, and it's honestly more effective to communicate in normal language than to bother with 9-liners; we have discovered we have fewer mishaps without a proper line-by-line read than with them. There's still a procedure, it's just not "Line 1, ___. Line 2, ___." Some people are way more attached to that procedure, and thus now I've just started to warn people ahead-of-time.

Hope to see more of you!

I will say, you can set the same control scheme from ARMA 2 to ARMA 3 with few changes. I still use ARMA 2 controls

Having a rigid procedure certainly bridged the gap between the mix of civilian and military experiences that we have here in the unit. It's easier to respond to "Hey, I see a target, can I blow it up?" than it is a full system of responses and requests, but every call is different.

https://youtu.be/XK3H6RGQLIg not a perfect example but you can hear me and our current RTO in this video talking back and forth, and https://clips.twitch...uleItsBoshyTime another example from our current RTO
